Legal and policy context of national social entrepreneurship policies
in the SDG era

The cross-border nature of the economic, environmental, and social concerns that gave rise to the SDGs emphasizes the significance of utilizing regional and inter-country structures, as well as legal instruments, to address social issues within these domains. Moving forward, it will be critical to ensure that the most effective regional social entrepreneurship initiatives are leveraged in support of the 2030 Agenda.

How the national social entrepreneurship policies development process should be

[Source: Adapted from World Health Organization (2016) Strategising national health in the 21st century: a handbook. Geneva]

Social entrepreneurship policies are critical to advancing countries’ social, economic, and environmental growth, as well as their long-term development. Creating comprehensive and practical national social entrepreneurship policies is both a political and a technical process, and both should be acknowledged as policies evolve.

National social entrepreneurship strategies should include dynamic, non-linear approaches that include stakeholders at numerous levels and across multiple sectors in order to achieve multiple goals. Given this complication, one-dimensional approaches to national social entrepreneurship policies are unsuitable for addressing multi-dimensional societal challenges, as well as the demands of current and future generations.
